PARESE HAS BEST RUN OF SEASON SATURDAY AT MOTOR MILE

RADFORD, Va. – Toby Parese made the decision to switch to weekly competition at Motor Mile Speedway and it is starting to pay dividends. Parese, 17, had his best race of the season Saturday night in the speedway’s 150-lap Late Model feature, finishing 11th in the 28-car field.

Parese noted that assistance on the radio from crew chief and teammate Shaun Mangum helped him accomplish the result.

“Shaun dropped out of the race early and then he got on the radio and started coaching me. He has a lot of experience at Motor Mile so he really helped me and I learned a lot. He got me running the bottom (groove) and I realized the car worked really well down there. We’re all really pleased with the way the race went. Things are starting to come together for us,” Parese said.

Parese started 22nd and steadily moved through the field on his way to the 11th-place finish.

“I passed some cars and avoided a couple accidents. It felt good to work on cars and set them up to make passes. 150 laps is a long race and it gave me great experience. I want to thank my dad, Mangum Motorsports, and Michael Gandy Auto Mall in Statesville, which is a new sponsor for us,” Parese said.

Parese will race again this weekend although, since Motor Mile is off, his team is not sure what track they will be competing at.

Toby Parese is a 17-year-old racer originally from Pennsylvania. Now residing in Mooresville, N.C., Parese is in his second season of late model competition. A former WKA karting champion, Parese competed at Concord Motorsport Park in 2007 before beginning ’08 at Tri-County Motor Speedway. He raced Concord again in early June before switching his focus to Motor Mile.

Parese is a member of the Team Full Throttle NASCAR Driver Development Program and is represented by Driver Development Services, Inc., Charlotte, N.C. Marketing partners for the Parese are Thor Oil, TST Racing, Mangum Motorsports, Michael Gandy Auto Mall, and the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

PARESE VENTURES TO MOTOR MILE WITH NEW TEAM

RADFORD, Va. – Toby Parese and the Mangum Motorsports team traveled to southern Virginia Saturday for Parese’s first late model race at Motor Mile Speedway. The night featured a pair of 75-lap features. Parese finished 24th and 17th in the 28-car fields.

“It was a good experience,” Parese said. “It’s a tough track because there are more cars and tougher competition than what I’m used to. I never raced at the track before Saturday so it was a learning experience.

“The second race was better than the first. I think I took what I learned from the first 75-lapper and used it to my advantage in the second race. The car a little tight in the center of the corner, but overall it was decent.”

Saturday marked Parese’s second night of racing since joining his new team, Mangum Motorsports based in Monroe, N.C. Parese is working with Shaun Mangum serving as his crew chief as well as teammate. The team plans to focus on competing at Motor Mile through the remainder of the 2008 season.

Off the track, Parese had his No. 22 late model on display at the Central Academy of Technology and Art in Monroe. Parese got the opportunity to participate in the academy’s summer school activities as well as speak to its students about his late model racing.

“It was a nice time. Shaun (Mangum) and I brought our cars down there and did some talking with the kids. Everyone was really interested and happy to see the cars. It was a great opportunity for me,” Parese said.

Parese will race again Saturday at Motor Mile.
